A hat-trick of wins for the mighty Allelys Group!

Operator of the Year

Allelys Group – Founded in 1959 by Maurice Allely, originally specialising in livestock movements across the UK. From these small beginnings, the business has now grown to be one of the UK’s largest and most successful transport and specialist Heavy Lift companies. It now comprises five divisions, as exemplified by their motto ‘No matter how Large, or Small, Allelys handle it all…’

Sally Traffic, on announcing the Winner:

And the WINNER– in the Judges’ words – whose full range of equipment to handle all sizes and types of cargo, including three girder bridge trailers, SPMTs, modular trailers, heavy tractors, jacking, skidding and lifting systems, continued investment in new equipment strengthens the company’s range of activities. For both the family – and the organisation as a whole – it has been a tremendous journey: from a single Thorneycroft Sturdy Star cattle truck (in the house tonight), to a Goldhofer Faktor 5 girder bridge trailer and a whole lot more – in less than 60 years.

In the words of our Judges:

The company has grown from humble beginnings to be one of the largest and most successful Heavy Lift companies in the U.K., with a huge range of capabilities available from the five divisions within the operation. Fully integrated management systems that are approved to the highest standards ensure customer confidence in the operation.

A full range of equipment to handle all sizes and types of cargo, including three girder bridge trailers, SPMT’s, modular trailers, heavy tractors, jacking, skidding and lifting systems, continued investment in new equipment broadens the company’s range of activities. In house training and employee development provides the skills required to make best possible use of this equipment.

For both the family and the organisation as a whole, it has been a tremendous journey from a single Thorneycroft Sturdy Star cattle truck, to a Goldhofer Faktor Five girder bridge trailer and a whole lot more, in less than 60 years.”

Environmental Initiative of the Year

Allelys Enviro

Allelys Group – A long rural heritage runs through the heart of the Allelys family, and they are passionate about green issues. Environmentally friendly initiatives include solar panels, ground interceptors, and aggressive recycling of rain-water, tyres, steel, and aluminium. This has reduced utility bills and will, long term, improve the sustainability of their business – in a sector traditionally considered to be less green.

Sally Traffic, on announcing the Winner:

And for the WINNER, let us hear one Judge’s summary: “Progressive implementation of environmental technology has ensured a sustainable approach to carbon reduction. This in turn has supported their business growth. As sustainability becomes more relevant within tendering, this company is leading the way in building a responsible business fit for the future.”

In the words of our Judges:

“Careful attention has been paid to both reducing the company’s energy consumption and environmental impact of its operations, the use of solar panels for offices and workshops is a good case in point. The operation of Euro 5 and 6 trucks benefits everybody in terms of reduced emissions, but does represent a substantial investment in new equipment to achieve this, especially with heavy haulage tractors that traditionally have a long service life to offset their high purchase price.”

The Earl Attlee Award

Allelys Earl

Lord Attlee:

Throughout the last 12 months, the team at HeavyTorque have worked closely with Earl Attlee (myself) and the teams at Business in the Community and Responsible Consulting to encourage companies operating in our sector to promote their corporate social responsibilities. This has been achieved through a series of articles together with the dedication of the Earl Attlee award for 2016 to a company who demonstrates they are actively working towards a fairer society and a more sustainable future.

Chris Leech:

We have a clear winner for tonight’s Earl Attlee Award

A long established local business in a rural area, the company started in agricultural haulage and the family are passionate about green issues and its involvement within the local community.

Environmental initiatives include the use of solar panels for both offices and workshops, recycled rain water in the truck wash, on site recycling and the upcycling of modular buildings from another location. It is very pleasing to see these initiatives from a sector of industry that is rarely associated with these issues.

Close involvement with local charities, such as Shakespeare Hospice, Warwickshire Air Ambulance and Studley First Responders – amongst others – is a timely reminder that many of us may need the services of these organisations at some time in our lives.

Were he still with us today, the companies founder Maurice Allely would have been exceptionally proud of what his team have accomplished – since inception all those years ago – but tonight memorably.
