West of Scotland Heavy Haulage – for successfully delivering 2 Siemens, 7 mega watt – 125 metre turbines from Glasgow – 45 miles to Millour Hill Wind Farm in North Ayrshire. West of Scotland’s team had to manoeuvre the 52 metre blades on specialist Nooteboom, Broshuis and Scheuerle trailers through tight M8 junctions and supporting flyover uprights – before morning traffic would stall progress.
In the words of one of our Judges:
“A complicated job that required the road transport team to meet the ro-ro vessel at Campbeltown, load the components onto trailer and then ship to Glasgow where the loads were discharged and then put into storage. When required the components were transported to the wind farm site, the extreme length and dimensions required careful route survey and planning, close liaison with the authorities and excellent teamwork between the transport crew and police. Working to a tight time frame left little scope for error, the highly experienced team of drivers and steersmens, along with the escorts did an excellent job and Glasgow was able to get to work next morning without any unscheduled delays. A tough job done very well, as the company slogan says “Simply the West.”
